MYSURU: Four members of a family were found dead under suspicious circumstances in two apartments in south Mysuru early on Monday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Chethan, a businessman and mechanical engineer, his wife Rupali (43), their 15-year-old son Kushal and Chethan’s mother Priyamvada (65).
The discovery has left the local community in shock.

According to police, Chethan was found hanging with his head covered in a plastic cover, while his son Kushal, a class X student, was found strangled with his leg tied. His aged mother Priyamvada (62), who lived in another apartment home was smothered to death while his wife Rupali (43) too was found murdered.
Sources confirmed Chethan has allegedly killed them all in their sleep before he ended his life during the wee hours.
Commissioner of police Seema Latkar said cause of death is yet to be ascertained and one was found hanging. It appears financial struggle has pushed Chethan to take extreme steps. The incident came to light after Chethan's in-laws alerted police early on Monday.
Chethan is said to have called his brother Bharath, who stays in the US, before the incident and he then informed Chethan’s in-laws in Mysuru. He also visited a temple at his native in Gorur, Hassan on Sunday and later had dinner at his in-laws’ home in Mysuru before returning to apartment.
Commissioner said they got information about the incident at 6 in the morning.

Who was businessman Chethan?Chethan was originally from Gorur, a village in Hassan, and had worked as an engineer in Dubai before returning to Mysuru in 2019.
After his return, Chethan started a job consultancy, helping graduates secure positions in firms based in Dubai. On Sunday, Chethan had taken his family to the Gorur temple for a visit. Later, the family had dinner at his in-laws' home before returning to their apartment.

Forensic and post-mortem reports are still awaited to confirm the exact cause of death.
Neighbours described the family as having lived in the apartment for over a decade. They were known to lead a normal life, and there had been no visible signs of distress or trouble in recent weeks.
The turn of events has left many in the community stunned, as the family had been well-liked and appeared to be living without any obvious issues.
