Road or obstacle course? It’s a tough ride for commuters on key stretches of Gurgaon’s Sector 9A

Gurgaon: The internal roads in Sector 9A are in a state of disrepair, with potholes, loose gravel, and thick dust making daily commute difficult. According to residents, MCG did not carry out even basic repair work on the 18-metre-wide sector roads, considered the main arteries of the area, despite repeated complaints over the past two years.The roads were last laid over five years ago, and since then, no patchwork or resurfacing was done, they said.Instead, broken stretches were filled with construction debris, further aggravating the problem."The condition of the roads has been deteriorating with every monsoon. Water fills up the potholes and navigating the roads becomes life-threatening," said Ashutosh Jaspal, a resident.The two primary access roads to the sector—one from the ESIC Hospital side and the other from the boosting station—are both severely damaged. While the ESIC side was dug up in Feb this year for sewer line laying, the latter is riddled with potholes, making it equally difficult to navigate."We are effectively cut off. There is no safe entry into the sector," Jaspal said.Moreover, complaints lodged on both GMDA and MCG grievance portals are routinely marked as "resolved" without any action being taken on the ground, residents alleged.Suraj Bhola, general secretary of the sector's RWA, said that they have written multiple letters to the officials concerned, met them, and submitted complaints for over two years, but to no avail. "They are giving nothing but false assurances. These 18-metre roads are the lifeline of the sector. They haven't been maintained in five years, and this reflects the officials' apathy. At the very least, they could have done temporary patchwork. Even that was denied to us," Bhola said.Meanwhile, the executive engineer of MCG, Sanjeev Kumar, said, "We have floated the tender for the construction of internal roads in Sector 9A with an estimate of Rs 2.49 crore. The work will start once the tender is given. Additionally, we are conducting a survey of 18m roads across the city for developing them as model roads."
