Whoopi Goldberg claims she was denied her birthday treats because of politics, bakery responds

Whoopi Goldberg claimed an NYC bakery refused to serve her birthday desserts because of her political beliefs which are anti-Trump. On Wednesday's episode of "The View", Goldberg and co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Joy Behar and Sara Haines celebrated Whoopi's 69th birthday. Goldberg said she didn't want to name the bakery that declined to take her offer due to her left-leaning political views.
Entertainment Weekly identified the bakery as Holtermann's Bakery on Staten Island which denied Goldberg's claim and said they were having trouble with their boilers. “I said to Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it right now,'” Holtermann said. “‘We have so many things going on with my boiler,’ because the building is from 1930, so, when she called me, I had no idea [if we could] be baking everything.” Holtermann said the baker didn't want to make a commitment when Whoopi Goldberg ordered the sweet treats for the November 13 episode.
The dessert — a trifle-esque treat with layers of sponge cake, Bavarian cream and fruit — was one of Goldberg’s mom’s favorites growing up, the star explained. "Now, I should tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political leanings, and the place that made these refused to make them for me,” the actress said.
"They said that their ovens had gone down, all kinds of stuff, but folks went and got them anyway,” Goldberg explained, “which is why I'm not telling you who made them.”
The bakery owner said a woman did come to pick up approximately 50 Charlotte Russe desserts in the morning of November 13, which the owner said she was ultimately able to make despite the boiler troubles. She said she was not aware of who the woman was or whether she had any affiliations to Goldberg or The View.
