Rose BC player Angel Reese has expressed her disappointment over not receiving the winner’s prize money despite her significant contributions throughout the Unrivaled league, even though she sat out the final match due to injury. Reese was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year but did not receive any share of the prize, as each player was awarded a $50,000 bonus in addition to their base salaries.
What made Angel Reese so angry?
Reese, a power forward for the Chicago Sky, participated in the 3-on-3 Unrivaled league, which allows players to earn extra income during the WNBA offseason, similar to the Indian Premier League. Her team, Rose BC, became the first-ever winner of the new league by defeating Vinyl 62-54.
After the final, Reese vented her frustration on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “50K NEED DATTTTT.” She also thanked WNBA player Courtney Williams, who responded with several crying emojis.
Reese became more vocal when NBA player Sydney Colson joked that she could take some of her earnings if needed. Colson tweeted, “Hey Angel girl, just wanted to check in and see how you are doing and just let you know I’m here for you if you need anything… especially if you need to get rid of 50k by tomorrow or anything like that.”
Reese responded in jest, “Hey sista. I’m doing well. Just won 50k on a flight. I know you are VERY aware & I’m sorry to break it to you, but I’m on a rookie contract & that 50k was a little more than half of my contract, so I have to keep that to myself… sorry :( give me a few years and I gotchu. Be well.”
What is Angel Reese’s financial status?
Reese, who entered the WNBA as a rookie last year, is one of the best players in the game. According to Talksport.com, Reese takes an annual salary of $73,439. She has previously stated that the WNBA doesn’t cover all her expenses, including her monthly rent of $8,000.
