Gujarat Titans bought England batter Jos Buttler for an impressive Rs 15.75 crore, followed by key acquisitions such as Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Lucknow Super Giants went all out at the two-day Indian Premier League 2025 Auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as they splashed out a whopping Rs 119.90 crore to pick 24 players for the upcoming editions of the cricketing extravaganza.
After spending big on retaining their core six players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the Rajasthan Royals made smart acquisitions at the auction without extravagant spending.
Priyansh Arya was lapped up by Punjab Kings for Rs 3.80 crore during the IPL Auction. The Delhi player has lit the local cricket scene in the capital with six sixes and was the leading scorer in the Delhi Premier League. The 23-year-old has picked up that form and taken it to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well
"He destroys bowlers and has hit six sixes in an over"
Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians also retained their top players - Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and Jasprit Bumrah.
At the auction, they got the likes of Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner and Will Jacks.
MI projected XI for IPL 2025
Having retained core of their team, Chennai Super Kings didn't need to break bank to better their squad during the IPL Auction. R Ashwin and Noor Ahmed became crucial additions into the squad. How will their XI look on the first day of the IPL?
We take a look
"Goodbyes are never easy," says Rishabh Pant in a social media after ending association with Delhi Capitals. The wicketkeeper-batter and the captain was released ahead of the auction. During the auction he attracted big money and eventually joined Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore - becoming the most expensive signing in IPL history
IPL Auction: Rahul Dravid dwells on their approach and strategy during the auction
IPL Auction can make or bring your valuation crashing down after form, injuries, lean period, age or even the business of the game. If you can get a 13-year-old earning a crore rupees in their first inclusion in the auction, you can also see a 91% drop in salary a year on - that was the fate for some during the auction.
A look at the players who took a paycut at the auction
Gujarat Titans assistant and batting coach Parthiv Patel shed light on why they went for Jos Buttler, paying Rs 15.75 crore in the process, during the IPL Auction.
Parthiv said the England skipper brings in a lot of experience into the lineup and has the understanding of the IPL as well.
IPL Auction: RR owner Manoj Badale on team's business
Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale on the team's business at the IPL Auction, "We came into the auction with a strong Indian batting core that we believe has the ability to perform over multiple cycles. We were looking to add an experienced and talented bowling unit. I am happy with what we’ve been able to achieve. We've acquired multiple international wicket takers and promising Indian talent. We've also been able to add depth in both batting and bowling departments.
"Some of these are familiar faces who've developed over the last couple of years and there's some new exciting talent who we can't wait to work with.
"Overall we're delighted with the squad we've been able to finalize, which is a mixture of proven experience and exciting youth."
On the strategy at the auction
"Rahul, Kumar and the entire team have put in an incredible amount of effort in preparation for these 2 days. Having executed that vision and planning, I'm really excited for the upcoming season. We had our targets in mind and have been able to secure most of them. We believe we've been able to assemble a squad that will be competitive this season and will give our fans plenty of reasons to be proud of us."
The second day of the IPL Auction in Jeddah witnessed Bhuvneshwar Kumar take the biggest paycheque despite being out of national reckoning for over two years. His rich IPL experience may have played a role as Royal Challengers Bengaluru snapped him up for Rs 10.75 crore.
Elsewhere, Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Tushar Deshpande and Rasikh Dar also earned blockbuster deals.
With over a thousand players registering for the IPL Auction and 577 making the shortlist, it was always going to be tough for franchises to fill the eventual 204 slots. They did their best in the Rs 120 crore budget. But there were some big names that went unsold including Kane Williamson. We take a look at the five names that, quite honestly, shocked us as they found no bidders
A street-smart T20 bowler who can make the ball talk with his classical swing, Deepak Chahar will be donning the Mumbai Indians jersey in the next IPL season, after the franchise bought him for Rs 9.25 crore at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah on Monday. Deepak will, thus, no longer be part of MS Dhoni's CSK and said that he will miss the icon's company.
MI outbid Punjab Kings, who withdrew just before the bid crossed the Rs 8 crore mark, and CSK to get the swing bowler in their ranks on the second day of the auction.

IPL mega Auction - A total of Rs 639.15 crore spent | 182 players sold | No takers for 395 players | Rishabh Pant most expensive buy @ Rs 27 crore
Veteran India seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar fetched a whopping Rs 10.75 crore from RCB while Bihar's Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest crorepati, at 13, as the Indian Premier League auction concluded after an action-packed Day 2 in Jeddah on Monday.
In the two-day affair, a total of Rs 639.15 crore were spent by the 10 franchises combined as 182 players were sold.
395 players remained unsold at the mega auction.
Suryavanshi, the teenage prodigy, who made his T20 debut for Bihar in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was picked by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.10 crore.
In a surprise, Mumbai's Prithvi Shaw and Shardul Thakur found no takers at the auction while veteran Ajinkya Rahane, who had gone unsold earlier in the day, returned late and was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 1.50 crore.
New Zealand stars Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips were also among the unsold players on Day 2.
The day however belonged to Bhuvneshwar. Out of national reckoning for more than two years, Bhuvneshwar's experience was in demand among the IPL franchises.
Bhuvneshwar, who will be 35 before the start of next IPL, has 300 wickets from 287 career T20 games and an economy rate of less than eight. But he last played for India during a tour of New Zealand in November 2022 and is considered well past his prime at the international level. However, with at least three Indian pacers needed per team, the pool is not large enough to ensure equal distribution among the 10 teams.
Therefore, an out-of-favour Bhuvneshwar, an injury-prone Deepak Chahar (Rs 9.25 crore for Mumbai Indians) and a Test reserve Mukesh Kumar (Rs 8 crore RTM by Delhi Capitals) got good deals on the second day when franchises came with leaner purse after splurging on Sunday.
Akash Deep, the Test pacer, got a Rs 8 crore deal from Lucknow Super Giants.
Even a Tushar Deshpande, who has an economy rate of close to 10 runs per over, was snapped by Rajasthan Royals at Rs 6.50 crore. He is currently recuperating from an ankle operation.
Former RCB skipper Faf du Plessis became the biggest bargain buy for Delhi Capitals at a base price of Rs two crore while Gujarat Titans were smart to lap up India all-rounder Washington Sundar for Rs 3.20 crore.
Englishman Sam Curran, who had once attracted a Rs 18 crore bid, only had a couple of takers with CSK bringing him back home at Rs 2.40 crore.
Hardik Pandya's brother Krunal Pandya got a Rs 5.75 crore deal from RCB who needed an experienced spin bowling all-rounder.
Nitish Rana, who had once breached the million dollar mark as an uncapped player, got a Rs 4.20 crore winning bid from Rajasthan Royals.

RR made the first move for Vaibhav, followed closely by Delhi Capitals. As the bidding intensified, the price quickly surpassed the Rs 1 crore mark. DC hesitated at Rs 1.10 crore but ultimately decided to back out, allowing Royals to secure the young talent for Rs 1.10 crore.
Vaibhav rose to prominence when he played in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Bihar at the age of 12, accumulating around 400 runs in just five matches.
