Met Gala 2025 dress code announced!

The Met Gala, an iconic annual event held on the first Monday of May, has revealed its dress code for 2025. This year’s theme is personal and intimate, titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. For the first time since 2003, the event's focus will be on menswear. The dress code for guests is “Tailored for You,” reflecting the exhibition’s celebration of personal style.
According to Vogue, the theme pays tribute to the exhibition’s exploration of the role of sartorial style in shaping Black identities, specifically highlighting the rise and influence of the Black dandy. This year’s dress code encourages attendees to interpret the theme creatively while staying true to their individual sense of style. The idea is to celebrate the uniqueness of each person’s fashion choices and embrace the bold statement that Black dandyism represents.

This year's Met Gala will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams. Honorary chair LeBron James joins the star-studded host committee, which includes names like André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Grace Wales Bonner, Simone Biles, Jonathan Owens, Dapper Dan, Janelle Monáe, Tyla, USHER, and many others. The committee represents a wide array of influential figures in fashion, music, sports, and culture, emphasizing the event’s celebration of Black excellence.

The Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibition will be open from May 10 through October 26, showcasing 12 thematic sections. These include “Ownership,” “Presence,” “Distinction,” “Disguise,” “Freedom,” “Champion,” “Respectability,” “Jook,” “Heritage,” “Beauty,” “Cool,” and “Cosmopolitanism,” each representing a key aspect of the dandy aesthetic. The exhibit will explore how these characteristics have shaped Black culture and fashion through history, and it promises to be an immersive and enlightening experience that honors the power of Black style and identity.
