Ranveer Allahbadia admits to his mistake in statement to the police: 'Went to Samay Raina's show because he's a friend'
Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chachlani were summoned on Monday. They appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell in Thane, to record their statement after already missing out on two summons. For those not in the know, FIRs have filed against Ranveer, Ashish Chachlani, Samay Raina, Apoora Makhija. Ranveer’s statement on the show regarding parental sex faced a lot of backlash. Now as Ranveer recorded his statement, a report suggests that he confessed to his crime in front of the police.
According to ABP news, Ranveer said in his statement, according to a source, “I am a friend of Samay Raina. That is why I went to that show. It was my mistake to say the line which has caused controversy. I should not have said that.”

He further told the police that, “We are YouTubers and that is why we keep coming on each other's shows due to friendship.” He also regretted saying what he did.

According to ANI, both YouTubers recorded their statements, with Ranveer leaving after four hours, while Ashish continued his session. Meanwhile, Ranveer had filed a plea in the Supreme Court regarding all the FIRs against him. The supreme court told him, “If this isn’t obscenity, then what is?” Further, while the court has granted him interim protection, he is barred from doing shows and travelling outside the country.
He had dropped an apology video where he said, “My comment was not appropriate; it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I personally had a lapse in judgment. I’m sorry.” The National Commission for Women (NCW) also intervened, summoning Allahbadia, Raina, and Mukhija for their remarks. The new summons require Allahbadia and Mukhija to appear on March 6, while Raina has been directed to appear on March 11.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has escalated its probe into the India's Got Latent controversy, recording the statement of social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, also known as The Rebel Kid, on Tuesday (February 25). As per ANI reports, authorities have summoned more than 30 individuals in connection with the case. Reportedly, both Ashish Chanchlani and Ranveer Allahbadia had earlier reached out to Maharashtra Cyber Cell officials, expressing their willingness to record their statements. Following this, on Monday (February 24), they voluntarily appeared before the cyber cell to provide their statements. The duo arrived at the Maharashtra Cyber Cell Headquarters in Navi Mumbai to complete the process.
Interestingly, Ranveer once joked that his sense of humor might get him into legal trouble. Amid the ongoing drama, several of his old podcast clips have resurfaced and are now going viral, including one featuring popular comedian Vir Das.
Vir reacted to the controversy and said, "The audience is always welcome to debate what good comedy is," Mr Das wrote. "A good artist will take their feedback head down, mouth shut, and maybe evolve. Either way, the consequences of your comedy on your career and audience are pretty instant. That's a natural process."
As the controversy intensified, many celebrities voiced their opinions, stressing the need for stringent actions against Samay, Ranveer, and other comedians for their provocative remarks. However, some later expressed concerns that the situation was becoming disproportionate. For example, B Praak, who initially canceled his appearance on Ranveer's podcast in light of the controversy, later suggested that artists should be granted some leniency regarding their mistakes.
