Zaheer Iqbal shares nerve-wracking moment of asking Shatrughan Sinha for Sonakshi Sinha’s hand: ‘His personality is intimidating'

Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal recently shared a lighthearted story about how Zaheer approached Sonakshi’s father, legendary actor Shatrughan Sinha, to ask for her hand in marriage. Zaheer described the nerve-wracking experience of approaching the Bollywood veteran.
Speaking to News18, Zaheer revealed that he was the one who decided it was time to tell Shatrughan Sinha about their relationship, even though Sonakshi was waiting for the perfect moment.“I had to check where he was, make sure he was in a good mood,” Zaheer said as he mentally prepared himself.
Nervous about the conversation, Zaheer prepared multiple monologues in different tones—serious, comedic, and even in shudh Hindi, practicing lines like, "Sir, mujhe aapki beti se bahut mohabbat hai" (I love your daughter very much). With only a few days left until Shatrughan Sinha returned from Delhi, Zaheer compared the experience to preparing for a film role.
Despite all his rehearsals, Zaheer admitted that when the moment finally arrived, his nerves got the better of him. “Everything was forgotten the moment I entered the room,. I was fumbling for the first two, three minutes. He made me feel so comfortable, and after that, we just became great friends,” He recalled.

Zaheer also humorously confessed that he initially feared Shatrughan’s stern public image, joking that he half-expected the actor to yell his iconic “Khamosh!” line. But once they spoke, Zaheer realised that the legendary actor was much more approachable than he had imagined.
"I had the same image as everyone else—that he’s very serious, and he might just say ‘Khamosh!’ and I’d run out of the house. He has a personality that makes you feel a bit intimidated at first, but once you get to know him, it’s all good,” he said.
Sonakshi agreed, mentioning her father’s intimidating aura, "Yeah, my father has that effect on people. But he’s a complete softie—once you get past the initial fear, you realise he’s the nicest guy.”

After dating for 7 years, Sonakshi and Zaheer registered their marriage on June 23 this year in the presence of their close friends and respective family members.
