Sunaina Roshan opened up about the emotional and physical battles she and her family have faced over the years. From confronting life-threatening conditions such as cancer and fatty liver disease to overcoming alcohol addiction, Sunaina has experienced several testing phases. Her father,
Rakesh Roshan, was diagnosed with early-stage throat cancer in 2018, and her brother,
Hrithik Roshan, also suffered from chronic subdural haematoma. Sunaina had shared her views on why men are conditioned not to cry during tough times.
In an interview with News18, Sunaina recounted how her father's unwavering support and protectiveness helped her through some of her darkest moments. “Men have emotions; there’s nothing wrong with that. Men do need to cry as well — there’s no need to say that we haven’t cried. I have seen my dad cry so many times — when I was ill, and when he found out I was pregnant for the first time. So, I have seen him shed happy tears,” she said.

Sunaina also described how
Rakesh was devastated each time her health deteriorated, particularly when they believed her recovery was complete. She further added that she is scared to tell Rakesh even if she has a headache, as it makes him panic and he ends up calling more than three doctors to understand the reason behind the illness. “Because I have gone through so much, people think I am a pampered child. I am not,” she clarified.
Recalling the emotional toll of learning about her father’s cancer diagnosis right after her rehabilitation, Sunaina said it was one of the hardest moments of her life. After coming out of the rehabilitation centre, she was advised to avoid stress for around three months. Rakesh told her about his diagnosis during a video call, and she was shattered. She felt as though her world was falling apart once again.
Sunaina revealed that seeing her lively and spirited father bedridden due to cancer was even more heartbreaking than her own struggles with health. She confessed that upon discovering his illness, she struggled immensely to confront him.
