Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, the controversial singer, has rejected the offered plea by government officials that indicate guilt of the crimes and ruled out the possibility of a prolonged life sentence.

On Thursday, when Judge Arun Subramanian asked whether he had rejected the offer made by federal prosecutors, the singer dressed in beige jail uniform affirmed, “Yes, I do, your honour,” according to ABC News.

Diddy and his rejection of the plea

Maurene Comey, the assistant United States attorney, stated that if he had accepted the plea offered by government officials, he would’ve had less amount of jail time than being exposed to the trial, which could lead to a life sentence as well.
Another prosecutor, Madison Smyer, stated that the hip-hop mogul declined the offer last week at the hearing. The details about what the plea was, has not been made public yet.
Diddy’s lawyers argued that the sexual encounters were consensual, with nothing ‘criminal’ about the involvement with his long-time girlfriend brought in a third person occasionally in the mix as a part of a ‘swingers’ lifestyle.

The jury selection for the trial

With his rejection, the trial is about to begin on Monday, May 5, with the jury selection on charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and prostitution that state he forced women into prolonged drug-fueled sexual encounters he called "freak-offs” over a two-decade period. The opening statements are planned for May 12, and the trial is expected to last at least eight weeks.
On Monday, the residents of New York will be asked about what they already know case, to ensure unbiased treatment towards Diddy despite the media coverage so far. The impartial 12 panellists would lead the seating with 6 alternatives, according to Reuters.

Everyone involved in the case should follow the rules

Combs has six defence attorneys, and they’ll be adding two more to the group. They pointed out that one of the victim’s attorneys, Lisa Bloom, gave a statement to a TV documentary to tighten the grip of their case.
Judge has ordered everyone involved in the case to adhere to the professional standards and rules to not let any bias ruin the singer’s fair trial.
