BAREILLY: A 34-year-old woman was run over by a dumper truck after she fell off a motorcycle during police checking in UP's Shahjahanpur, police said on Monday. The woman was with her husband, a 35-year-old farmer, and their 15-year-old son, and she lost balance after police stopped them and started hitting her husband around 5.30pm on Sunday.
In his complaint, the victim's husband, Pradeep Kumar, alleged that sub-inspector Rishpal struck his bike with a baton, causing him to lose balance, which led to his wife, Amravati, falling off.
Locals staged a protest along with Tilhar MLA Salona Kushwaha. The MLA said police regularly held checks and often misbehaved with commuters. "They must act with more restraint and sensitivity. There should be a proper probe and appropriate action should be taken against the accused policeman," Kushwaha added.
Shahjahanpur SP Rajesh Dwivedi said, "A case was registered under BNS section 105 (culpable homicide) against sub-inspector Rishipal of Nigohi police station and the truck driver. I've asked ASP (city) Devendra Kumar to probe the complaint and submit a report. An FIR was also registered against those who protested and blocked traffic on the road after the incident."
