India Pakistan News: PM, EAM must clarify govt's stance: Congress on BJP's Turkey, Azerbaijan dig

The Congress on Wednesday hit back at the BJP for taking a swipe at it for parrying a query on calls for boycotting trade and tourism with Turkey and Azerbaijan, saying the decision on whether or not to have a relationship with any country has to be taken by the government and not the opposition. The Congress' assertion came after the BJP's IT department head Amit Malviya said on X, "The country is enraged by the support Turkey and Azerbaijan have extended to the terror state of Pakistan. There has been a growing call to boycott trade and tourism with these countries, and private citizens have stood up in solidarity."

But, Malviya said, the Congress party cannot even bring itself to align with the broader sentiment of the Indian people. He added, "No wonder it remains so disconnected from the public. It deserves its political oblivion and complete isolation."

Malviya's remarks came after Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera told the media that the party will soon get back to them when a question was asked if the party supports the boycott call.

Hitting back at Malviya, Congress' media and publicity department head Khera said, "Since this question is being raised by an office bearer of the BJP, @PMOIndia & @DrSJaishankar should immediately clarify if the government of India has snapped all diplomatic & trade relations with Turkey and has also shut their embassy in India."

"The decision on whether or not to have a relationship with any country has to be taken by the government and not the opposition. @MEAIndia kindly clarify," Khera said in a post on X.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said, "In the same vein, @PMOIndia and @DrSJaishankar should also clarify why the Modi Government has pursued normalisation with China despite its continued encroachment on Indian territory - or indeed why the PM lied to the people of India and irrevocably hurt national interests on June 19th, 2020 by giving China a public clean chit for its encroachments."

'Trump likes to claim credit for everything,' says ex Pentagon official and a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute Michael Rubin

This wasn't a conflict which India wanted. This was a conflict that was foisted upon India, says former Pentagon official Michael Rubin

"This wasn't a conflict which India wanted. This was a conflict that was foisted upon India. Every country has the right to defend its citizens. It doesn't differentiate between whether a formal army attacks the country or whether a terrorist army attacks the country. But ultimately, it's the job of India to draw a red line and say no, we will never tolerate terrorist attacks coming across our border, so India did what was absolutely necessary," he said.

India Pakistan News: Want to encourage direct communication between India, Pak, says US State Department

The United States expressed support for "direct communication" between India and Pakistan, whilst praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their peaceful approach.

Following four days of cross-border drone and missile strikes, both nations reached an agreement on Saturday to resolve the conflict.

Sources from the Indian government in New Delhi confirmed that the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both nations agreed to halt all military activities across land, air and sea with immediate effect, without any third-party intervention.

At a Tuesday press briefing, Principal Deputy Spokesperson Thomas Pigott of the State Department stated, "We also welcome the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for choosing the path of peace. As President Trump said, their decision reflects strength, wisdom, and fortitude."

He emphasised the importance of both nations maintaining direct communication for regional stability.

When questioned about Secretary of State Marco Rubio's discussions with Pakistani leaders regarding dismantling terrorist infrastructure, Pigott declined to discuss private diplomatic exchanges.

He reiterated their welcome of the weekend ceasefire and praised both prime ministers' peaceful approach, adding, "The President Truthed about this. He was very clear in terms of that. We also want to encourage direct communication between the parties. That is something we've also been clear about as well."

"Let me be clear that the horrendous terrorism we saw - 26 nationals stripped and shot - was horrific, and we condemn it. India-Pakistan tension: Hope parties will use deal for outstanding issues: UN spokesperson

Following the mutual agreement between India and Pakistan to cease hostilities, a UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres's spokesperson confirmed that the situation has improved significantly.

The bilateral understanding reached on May 10 brought an end to the four-day period of cross-border drone and missile exchanges between the two nations.
"The ceasefire is holding. I think we have seen we're in a better place than we were before. We hope that the ceasefire will continue to hold, and we hope that the parties will use this to deal with a lot of the outstanding issues between them," stated Stephane Dujarric, the Secretary-General's spokesperson, during Tuesday's daily press briefing.

India conducted precise military strikes under 'Operation Sindoor' targeting terror facilities on May 7, following the April 22 Pahalgam terror incident that resulted in 26 casualties. Subsequently, Pakistan launched attempts to strike Indian military installations on May 8, 9 and 10.

Following the agreement, official sources in New Delhi confirmed that the DGMOs of both nations reached an understanding to cease all military activities across land, air and sea with immediate effect, emphasising that this was achieved without external mediation.

The UN Secretary General welcomed this development between the two nations, viewing it as a constructive step towards ending current tensions.
Guterres expressed his optimism that this agreement would contribute to sustained peace and create conditions suitable for addressing long-term issues between both countries, as conveyed by Dujarric in Saturday's statement.

The UN has expressed its readiness to support initiatives aimed at fostering regional peace and stability.

India Pakistan News: Indian air defence renders Turkish drones ineffective

Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles, which Pakistan's military deployed extensively in their recent limited engagement with India, first gained significant attention when Ukrainian forces employed them to neutralise Russian military assets during the early stages of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Despite manufacturer claims of 27-hour flight endurance, these aerial platforms proved ineffective once Russia strengthened its air defence capabilities. Reports indicate that Ukraine subsequently shifted to utilising these vehicles primarily for surveillance and artillery positioning. India appears to have incorporated insights from the Ukrainian conflict, successfully intercepting both Turkish drones and Chinese missiles in flight, effectively neutralising Pakistan's intended strategic advantage of deploying them en masse as a response to Operation Sindoor. The BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw has been returned to India via Attari at 10.30 am, according to the BSF. This comes days after the ceasefire imposed on the India-Pakistan border.

Posters of suspects involved in Pahalgam terror attack appeared in various parts of Pulwama on Tuesday. The authorities announced Rs 20 lakh reward for anyone who provides information about the suspects. Authorities have assured that the informant’s identity will be kept confidential.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation following the success of Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26. The Prime Minister declared a transformative shift in India’s counter-terrorism doctrine. Emphasizing a bold new stance, Modi introduced three central pillars: decisive retaliation to any terror attack, zero tolerance for nuclear blackmail, and no distinction between terrorists and the states that harbor them.

PM Modi hailed the Indian Armed Forces for executing precision strikes on terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), asserting that Pakistan was forced to seek de-escalation after facing substantial military losses. He claimed that Operation Sindoor had redefined India’s approach to national security and would serve as the “new normal” in counter-terrorism measures.

Shortly after his address, suspected Pakistani drones were reported along the International Border in Samba district, Jammu. Army officials responded swiftly, neutralizing the UAV threat and ensuring no major disruption. Later, they emphasized that the situation remained under control and urged the public not to panic.

As a precautionary measure, authorities in Punjab’s border districts — including Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Hoshiarpur — activated blackout protocols. Sirens were sounded in Amritsar, and certain towns like Suranassi, Dasuya, and Mukerian observed partial blackouts. Some schools closed, but markets largely remained open, indicating controlled tension.

In a significant diplomatic development, India and Pakistan’s Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) held talks and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the ceasefire. The discussions included reducing troop presence in forward areas and avoiding any further aggressive actions.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump claimed credit for brokering the ceasefire, calling it a permanent solution to a dangerous standoff between two nuclear-armed nations. He praised both Modi and Pakistan’s leadership for their wisdom and restraint during the crisis, positioning the US as a key peacemaker.

The conflict escalated after the Pahalgam attack, with India launching strikes on nine terror camps across the border under Operation Sindoor. While Modi declared a temporary resolution, he left the door open for future strikes, stressing that the operation marked a shift in India’s long-term security policy.

Overall, while tensions appear to have eased and the situation remains under control, India’s messaging is clear: terrorism emanating from Pakistan will be met with swift, targeted, and uncompromising retaliation, and diplomacy will no longer shield state sponsors of terror. The evolving doctrine indicates a more assertive regional posture, with counter-terrorism now framed as a matter of policy rather than isolated retaliation.
