In a statement, the BSF said that Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw had inadvertently crossed over to Pakistan territory, while on operational duty in area of Ferozepur sector on 23rd April 2025 around 1150 hrs and was detained by Pak Rangers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a national address, announced a strategic shift in India’s counter-terrorism policy following the successful "Operation Sindoor," launched in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26. PM described the operation as a new doctrine, emphasizing decisive retaliation, no tolerance for nuclear blackmail, and no distinction between terrorists and their sponsors. He praised the Indian Armed Forces for dismantling Pakistan-based terror infrastructure, claiming Pakistan was left "begging for peace."
Army officials assured the situation was under control as no drone activity was spotted. However, earlier on Monday, the same day as PM Modi’s address, suspected Pakistani drones were detected and engaged near the border in Jammu’s Samba district.
Despite the tense backdrop, Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held talks and reaffirmed their commitment to the ceasefire. Both sides agreed to avoid aggressive actions and consider troop reductions.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump claimed credit for mediating the ceasefire, stating his administration helped prevent a nuclear conflict. He praised the leadership of both countries for showing restraint and wisdom during the crisis.
Additionally, while calm prevails in border regions, Prime Minister Modi warned that Operation Sindoor represents a new normal in India’s anti-terror operations, suggesting such decisive actions will continue against any future threats from Pakistan.
