RANCHI: A 46-year-old CRPF officer was killed while another sustained severe injuries after they were struck by lightning during an anti-Maoist operation in Jharkhand, officials said on Friday. The occurrence took place at 5:30 pm on Thursday in Keriburu village, West Singhbhum district, amidst heavy rainfall in the forested region.Officials reported that M Prabo Singh, a second-in-command officer from the 26th battalion, died in the lightning strike.Assistant Commandant Subir Kumr Mandal, 49, suffered injuries and received treatment at the Tata Main hospital in Noamundi.The incident also resulted in injuries to two Jharkhand Police personnel.The strike occurred at a CRPF security outpost where all personnel were stationed.Heavy rainfall impeded swift evacuation efforts of the affected personnel.Singh was from West Imphal district, Manipur, while Mandal hails from North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.The officers were commanding joint forces of CRPF and Jharkhand Police in the forested area for anti-Maoist operations.
